Harder to design apps Synchronous Communication Advantages: Easy to program Outcome is known immediately Error recovery easier (usually) Better real-time response (usually) Disadvantages: Service must be up and ready. Requestor blocks, held resources are “tied up”. Usually requires connection-oriented protocol
